Halifax Public Gardens in Redscale

It's coming into fall in the northern hemisphere and although to me that is just a reminder that winter is around the corner it is a great time to get out and take some Lomographs! I headed to the local public gardens and what better place is there to see how the seasons change!

This redscale roll was shot as a test roll for a Yashica camera that I found in a junk heap on the side of the road. Obviously it worked and what better place to take a test roll than at the local public gardens, as well as being able to see the seasons change. These gardens go from being completely covered in snow, to brightly blooming colors, to a sea of green and graduation prom dresses to a yellow/red/brown color when the leaves begin to change around this time of year.

I love the vintage colors of the flowers that the redscale film made. As this was a test film, I shot the roll first with the Yashica then again with another camera in case nothing had come out from the Yashica but as it has a meter inside which sets the ISO rating, this is now my go-to camera for redscales so that I can get these more washed-out vintage colors.

The public gardens have a rich history going back to 1836 and has been mostly unchanged since the early 1900’s with the exception of the restoration that had to take place from the destruction of hurricane Juan. I have many fond memories that have taken place in this garden and I’m sure that has been the case for both locals and visitors for over the last century.

If you are interested in finding more about the history of the gardens you can visit this site.

Amazing find and gorgeous picture of a place that I wish to see personally! What kind of Yashica was it thrown into the streets? What could have been her sin? Let me guess...a Yashica Mat G TLR? I have two Electro 35. One GSN and one GX bought expensively throug eBay.
