The awarding ceremony took place at the Australian Movie Convention on the Gold Coast, where cinemas from all over Australia and New Zealand come together to celebrate their achievements and share their success stories.

Kelly Rogers, co-owner of Bridgeway Cinema, accepted the award presented by Bindy Irwin, daughter of the late crocodile hunter, Steve Irwin, and Phil the python. The award was given to Bridgeway Cinema upon evaluating a combination of terms, including its revenue, commitment to industry, public service, best marketing, best management and allround good guys.

AIDA is a not-for-profit association representing independent film distributors in Australia, being film distributors who are not owned or controlled by a major Australian film exhibitor or a major U.S. film studio or a non-Australian person.
