When I finished the first part of my textile design studies in June, I was relieved. It’s a lot of hard work, and I could finally sit down and relax. I hate stress, and I was so looking forward to doing absolutely nothing at all. But doing nothing at all gets boring really fast.

No problem though – due to a serious lack of time during the school year, I have had no time to spend on lomography, and suffered from something I called ‘lomowithdrawal’.

On top of that, my planned vacation to Slovakia got canceled, so I decided on having a lomostaycation. ‘What is that?’ you ask?. Well, I decided to try to register my everyday life. To experience home and all the everyday places I have gotten so used to, like I’ve never seen them before. To pay attention. To go on an adventure in my backyard.

Also, for my masters next year, I want to examine myself and find out exactly what I think is important in life, and what I find beautiful, so I can translate this in my textiles.

On top of that, my boyfriend has to work abroad for a couple of weeks and he needed someone to look after his big fat cat ‘Louis’. He lives in a big house with a nice backyard and I would have it all to myself, which is a welcome change after spending a whole school year in a tiny room without a garden or even a balcony. Another important part of this little project is solitude. Many people are afraid of being alone, and so was I. But my boyfriend is working abroad, my friends are either busy being pregnant or on a vacation somewhere far, far away, so I kind of had no choice, but I embraced this and I don’t regret it. At first I was a little uneasy, but now I can just sit outside and enjoy my own company in silence. I think this will help me find out what is important to me.

Okay, so honestly, I might have named a couple of spiders that live in the lavender bush here (Willy and Walfred) so I am not entirely alone.

And this is what I love, every morning I go outside with my coffee, check on Willy and Walfred, examine all the plants and become overjoyed when I see a tomato growing or a plant that has finally started blooming. I know it sounds crazy but when I’m watering the plants, I feel like I am nurturing myself.

It’s that simple. All one needs is a little sun, a big fat cat , some plants to take care of, and healthy doses of self respect. Oh these, and a whole lot of film. ☺

A child-like sense of adventure is necessary too. When I take the bus/train to anywhere, I feel like I am on a big, important journey. The truth is, you don’t have to travel to the other side of the world to encounter the unexpected, it’s all right in front of you, you just need to pay attention!

Nice write-up! I'm having a Lomostaycation in the UK right now myself, combined with an Olympicsavoidcation - apart from the Lomolympics, of course! ;-)

Louis is a cutie, I love that he's in most of your pictures.
I enjoy looking at brinjal in my garden, most of them dropped to the earth when they're still yellow in colour :-(

update: EUREKA ! I think I know what I want to do for my masterproject next year. I'm not going to say to much about it untill I am completely sure, but lets just say that if my idea works out, my textiles won't be so out of place on the lomography site :)
I knew relaxing would pay off eventually ! So from now on, whenever Im relaxing, chilling or chillaxing, I can say I am actually working for school. YES!
