Multi-layered After Hours with Diana Mini

Remembering those nights I can't remember with the help of film, flash, and my analogue camera. Not just seeing double - this is a whole new layer of fun altogether!

Out of all the cameras I currently own, my Diana Mini “Jiyu” is my best bet for night outs. It’s not just the ultimate accessory; it’s the weapon of choice. Aim, shoot, and fire goes the flash! I just love it.

There are really just nights meant for fun; nights meant to extend to the wee hours of the morning. I had some of those nights with my Diana Mini. My Diana made it easy, more spectacular, and quite surprising.

My first roll of film using my Diana Mini was the most memorable yet. It was my best friend’s birthday. Drinks and cups were everywhere – it was a celebratory downpour. As I drank, I clicked. And as we all had quite too much to drink, there was literally no more thinking before shooting. We were living out Golden Rule #6 in its purest form. We didn’t have to think not to think – we just did. The camera was passed around, shots were taken, the party ended, and I went home with these:

Of course at that time, I had absolutely no idea how the frames overlapped. With all that shooting without thinking, we just didn’t care anymore if we have already rolled over to the next frame…And that’s what I love about those nights. We just had carefree fun, taking thoughtless photos as we went through the night.

I love these multiple exposures. They remind me of how much fun those nights have been. In some, we look like multi-headed aliens or ghosts.

Or deformed humans.

Some photos are outright funny!

Some photos are totally out of this world, which represents how we are when we’re having fun with friends!

I once read this quote from Sheffield’s Love is a Mixtape – “It was a smashing time, and then it ended, because that’s what times do.” Though those fun and spontaneous nights had to end, I took home the memories, which is not enough sometimes. ‘Pictures or it didn’t happen!‘, right? With these multi-layered photos I took home, I certainly won’t have a hard time remembering how wacky and fun those nights were. All I have to do is look at these photos and I’ll be transported back in time.

The Diana Mini is the ultra-compact, petite version of the Diana F+. This camera takes soft-focused, lo-fi images in 35mm and allows you to change between half-format and square shots with a flick of a switch. Get your own Diana Mini now!
