The Lomo LC-A+ and Splitzer, a Match Made in Heaven

I borrowed a Lomo LC-A+ and Splitzer for a few hours and shot a roll of film around central London. I was blown away by the results.

The Lomo LC-A+ has been fitted with a neat little leaver that re-cocks the shutter, making double exposures really easy. So when I first got my hands on an LC-A+ a few years ago, I went to town for the double exposing.

At first, I would shoot a photo, re-cock, and take another. Two photos in one frame – brilliant! I was able to tell a story in one frame. I was loving it and my roll of film was lasting longer than normal given all the double exposures I was doing.

The LC-A+ I had borrowed came with a Lomo Splitzer. It fitted over the lens and allowed me to only expose a certain area of the frame. It took a bit of brain power to visualize how the photos would come out, but I managed to get some great shots with the Splitzer.

I started thinking…The Splitzer worked by stopping light from reaching an area of film. I could almost simulate this without the Splitzer by taking a photo of a dark scene with just a little bit of detail / light. I started looking for the perfect double.

I finally came across a door that had been covered in posters, painted black and graffitied.

I figured that if I took a photo of this graffiti the pink, blue, and white spray paint will be exposed while the detail in the black one will be lost on the second exposure. I gave it a go and got this…

I was pretty pleased with the result and have tried to replicate this technique since. But the photo above remains my favourite.

The Lomo LC-A+ is known worldwide for its amazing features: automatic exposure, extended ISO range, and multiple and long exposure capabilities. Get your own Lomo LC-A+ now!
