Hello, tell us a bit about yourself and your Lomographic journey.

My name is Iskandar Ahmad Rodzai. People like to call me Isz or Eastmoe. I am currently living in Ipoh Perak. Before I jumped into Lomo world, I used to collect Polaroid and film/analogue cameras since 2003. For information, Ipoh is where u can find cheap and affordable film cameras especially at flea market. There is a popular flea market in Ipoh called “Loken” or Memory Lane which opens every Sunday morning.
Initially, it all started when I bought a Hong Kong creative magazine called ‘Milk’. Eventhough it written in Chinese and could not read it, I was attracted to the pictures and columns of the latest action figures and found out Lomography product reviews from there. It began my interest to search and learn more about Lomography. Since then, I have been making friends and joining groups with similar interest.

And how did you come across the products of Lomography / Lomography for the first time?

Previously, it was difficult to find Lomography products in Malaysia market and only available through the Internet. I remember my first analogue camera Smena 8m was bought at flea market for only RM10. Felt lucky because the camera works very well. Then, my second camera is a used Super Sampler which bought from a girl found in the Internet. From her, I got to know Lomography products in Malaysia have been selling at concept stores such as Folio and Room. Now, I have collected more than 15 Lomography cameras.

So is there any local community in Perak? Or are you part of any Lomography community in Malaysia?

We do not have official community yet for Lomographers in Perak, but in the meantime, we organize informal outings and gatherings. We just named ourselves “Lomo Ipoh” if someone outside Perak intends to join us. We exchange new skills, new experiments, talking about new gadgets and also we shares about our own camera collection. However, in Malaysia we have Effekts or formerly known as Lomokids which play a role to unite analogue lovers nationwide.

Did you join any outings / workshops / event organize by this community?

Yes I do join whenever there is the chance to do so. I am not only participating with analogue communities, I also joining the digital camera (DSLR) events. I will continue to give support for the love of photography especially in Ipoh whether the event is organize for digital or analogue users.

What the best part shooting with a bunch of Lomography enthusiast?

By meeting them, we are able to exchange ideas and do different things in order to capture funny yet amazing pictures. If you have the chance to get to know and meet Lomographers from outside Malaysia, it can widen your social circle – shooting activities together and share ideas whenever we visit their countries or vice versa.

And the worst?

So many activities to do with so little time.

Do you enjoy shooting alone or do you prefer shooting together with the community?

As for me, is not really a problem whether to shoot alone or with bunch of Lomographers. I just enjoy and embrace the moment.

What’s your favorite photo in your collection and why?

My double-exposure photos. The technique of 2 different images into single image creates uniqueness which meaningful and memorable.

Were you born in Perak? Where is your location now?

Actually I am a Sarawakian. I was born and lived in Miri, Sarawak until the aged of 9 before my family transferred to Perak. I have been raised, worked and married in Ipoh since then.

Tell us what do you love the most about Perak?

I love the mix-cultured of people, the food, and peaceful surroundings. Another thing is the flea market – Memory Lane which you never find elsewhere

What about the food? Is there any finger-licking good food that you love in Perak?

You will come across foods in Perak same as other countries in Malaysia. But if you are in Ipoh, you must try out Nasi Ganja (Nasi Wanggey), Mee Hailam Ang- Ang, Nasi Ayam Fauziah and Mee Kicap Mat Jasak.

Where would you bring your friend to go when they pay you a visit at Perak?

Normally, i will bring them visit Kellie’s Castle, Ipoh Limestone wonder, Leaning Tower of Teluk Intan, Pasir Salak Historical Complex, Pantai Remis, Pantai Teluk Batik, Memory Lane Flea Market, Birds Watching at Kuala Gula Taiping, off road driving in Lasah Sungai Siput, jungle trekking in Belum Forest or river boarding/whitewater rafting in Perak River.

Where do you develop your film at Perak? Do you have any other recommendation and what are the price and any other specific notes?

I usually develop films at “Fotomas” photo lab. I discovered this is only photo lab in Ipoh can do cross-processes and scans 120 films with affordable price. However, it charges higher for black and white film processes because the uses of chemicals are not easy to find. Due to that, I usually do my own black and white processes and scans.

Thanks for your time! Before we wrap things up, do you mind letting us know which Lomography product is your favorite and why?

I would prefer Horizon Kompakt because it has undiscovered abilities in it and my exploration with it, never end.

The Horizon Kompakt makes it easy for everyone to shoot fantastic panoramic images. With fixed focus and aperture settings, all you have to do is point and shoot! Get your own Horizon Kompakt now!
