Bridges stars as the protagonist Kevin Flynn, a software engineer who runs an arcade. A former employee of ENCOM, he was fired by the company’s senior executive Ed Dillinger (David Warner), who he believes stole his four video game creations in order to land a series of promotions. While attempting to obtain evidence to prove this, Flynn was stopped by an artificial intelligence called Master Control Program (MCP).

Enlisting the help of ENCOM employees—his ex-girlfriend Lora Baines (Cindy Morgan) and her boyfriend, ace computer programmer Alan Bradley (Bruce Boxleitner)—Flynn manages to break enter the company’s premises. As our protagonist tries to create a clearance for Bradley’s security program called “Tron,” the MCP uses a matter transmission program which turns Flynn into data and traps him inside the computer itself.
