London is a source of inspiration for artists everywhere – so it shouldn’t be a surprise that so many songs have been penned to honor this bustling city!

Waterloo Sunset : The Kinks – Written by vocalist Ray Davies, the song is a recollection of memories during his younger years: a visit to the Festival of Britain with his father, his first girlfriend, and walks on his way to Croydon Art School.

Bar Italia : Pulp – Singer Jarvis Cocker paid tribute to one of his favorite spots – the iconic Bar Italia café, which was a popular hangout among clubbers in the ’90s.

London : The Smiths – Morrissey croons about the pains of leaving home.

Mornington Crescent : Belle & Sebastian – A lovely song dedicated to a street in Camden.

Hometown Glory : Adele – Adele’s love letter to London, written after her mother tried to convince her to leave her hometown.

Strange Town : The Jam – Advice to newbies in London, from Paul Weller and company!

Ill Manors : Plan B – A protest song, written as a response to social unrest.

Nature Of This Town : Indigo Moss – A bluegrass number all about life sarf of the river in New Cross.

London Calling : The Clash – This iconic song expressed the political and social concerns that was troubling the city in the ‘70s. It has been listed as one of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll.
