We spent the day with skater Lucy Adams, running around with Lomo’s in hand attempting to capture her radness and do it justice in analogue form. A cloudy day and fast action calls for high ISO and the forgiving LC-A camera!
Not only a rad skater, Lucy has been an important face in the industry as well as a powerful voice for skating within the council. For a while she could officially call herself an ‘extreme sports development officer’ a unique position in Crawley that gave her the opportunity to build parks and get people on boards. Pretty much the perfect position for someone so passionate about skate…
But it wasn’t always a skating life for Lucy, who is arguably the UK’s best girl skater: “I had roller-skates,” she admits. But a first glance at skateboarding and she was converted: “I just thought, wow that’s much better than what I do.” Picking up a board in 1997, she’s been rolling around on a deck since she was 14 and she’s got the tricks to show for it.
As a minority in the skate world, being a girl has pushed Lucy rather than being a hindrance: “When there are barriers in the way if I can get them out the way, I love things more for it,”she explains.
So why does she say we should ‘Go Skateboard’? “To get rad. Not necessarily gnarly because people think they have to hurt themselves. Just to get rad. Skating is the coolest thing right? You look cool, you feel cool and your doing something cool!”
Lucy is sponsored by DC Shoes and Lovenskate. Check out her blog for more skate inspiration!
