Classic Albums in Lomographs 4: Cream's Disraeli Gears

Psychedelia classic, Cream's Disraeli Gears may not have reached the lofty heights of others in my series, but the wonderful, Sunshine of Your Love and Strange Brew make it a classic. This month we just sit back and let the vibes flow through us!

Disraeli Gears is arguably the best album by British supergroup Cream. Released in November 1967 it reached number 5 on the UK Albums Chart. It may not have reached the lofty heights of Pink Floyd’s Dark Side, but the album features the two singles “Strange Brew” and “Sunshine of Your Love”. Two classics of Psychedelia.

The album has received more acclaim in recent times, in 2003 the album was placed 112 in Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

The lyrics have some depth, but are mostly simple pop, so this month I’ve permitted myself the liberty of choosing pictures that just fit the lyrics, nothing too deep this month! So pull up a chair, lay back and wig out.

Strange Brew: “She’s a witch of trouble in electric blue, in her own mind she’s in love with you…”. This is one wacky electric blue magic lomograph!

Sunshine Of Your Love: “I’ll be with you when the stars start falling”. Retro, stars, a beautiful girl…

World of Pain: “Outside my window is a tree, there only for me…”. Finally I get to use one of my own lomographs!

Dance the Night Away: “Dance the night away, dance myself to nothing, vanish from this place…” I love the way the dancer appears transparent here, really suits the lyrics.

Blue Condition: “No relaxation, no conversation, no variation. In a very dark blue, blue condition…”. Although she could be smiling, this pose feels so sad.

Tales of Brave Ulysses: “Her name is Aphrodite, and she rides a crimson shell, and you know you cannot leave her for you touched the distant sands…” A song about falling in love in a distant tropical paradise.

SWLABR: “You’ve got that rainbow feel but the rainbow has a beard.” Weird lomograph, weird song, weird coincidence (Ok so it’s more like stubble).

We’re Going Wrong: “Please open your eyes, try to realize, I found out today we’re going wrong…” What you might find if you open your eyes!

Outside Woman Blues: “If you lose your money, great God, don’t lose your mind, and if you lose your woman, please don’t fool with mine.” Just a simple kiss…

Take It Back: “Don’t let them take me to where streams are red…” What better than a red river?

Mother’s Lament: “Oh your baby has gone down the plug hole…”. Not a tasteful song, but a great lomograph of the view from the plughole!

Next month we put on lipstick, back comb our hair and cry into our beer with The Cure’s Disintegration.
