Disdis: The story of Leo

As part of our Russia Day competition, we asked the Lomography community to try for a baby on June 12th. Diego (or Disdis as he's known in the community) was a bit early for the Rumble; his baby boy Leo was born in August last year. But we felt compelled to show his story and amazing selection of photos with you guys - Read on for his lovely tale of Leo's birth and development....

Leo has been in the world as much time as the time he was in the belly of his Mom. Since we saw that little spot on a scan, we’ve seen how every part of his little body has grown day by day.

Normally everybody says having a baby is the best project of your life. I agree. When I was younger, I thought I didn’t want to have a baby. Time passed and I changed my mind. The pregnancy went well and on 28th of August 2011, Leo came to life. It was the best experience in my whole life. Now Leo is 9 months and he is the sunshine of our lives. The way he discovers new things everyday is like experimenting with new cameras. First, you take a look. Grab the camera, open it, look how it works, turn it around, even shake it, push the bottom and listen to the sound of the click. Try a first roll. The first results are not good enough but, not giving up, everything starts to work and you get more and more perfect results. Leo learns that way. And we love watching him experimenting with objects, colors, sounds, movements….

When I was a child, my parents took all the pictures of my older brother so when I was born, they didn’t feel like shooting so many pictures of me. I promised, I would try to have a photo diary of Leo’s childhood. When he grows up, he’ll have a great bunch of analogue pictures to see to review once and once again.

When we take pictures of Leo, I feel he understands the camera. He poses, smile, or look in an adult way to the horizon. But what I love best is when showing him the pictures. He smiles, laughs and recognizes himself and his beloved mother in the photos I take. He especially loves black and white images but he is amazed too by a great double exposure.

I’m sure he’ll start taking pictures soon. I hope it! Nothing is as analogue as a baby.

There’s still time to join our competition dedicated to analogue love! Submit you entry by June 5th for a chance to win – Russia Day 2012: Show Us Some Love Rumble
