Hello, tell us a bit about yourself and your Lomographic journey.

I used to know “LOMO” from my friend Wei Ming, when I was in secondary school. I still remember that he was holding a SuperSampler and I told him to show me how to use it. Of course, after the roll was finished, he showed me the photo and I think it was amazing. But, by that time, I was not interested in neither Lomography nor photography. So the whole thing just stopped there. On 2008, a gang of Lomographers from KL came to Penang to record a Lomo documentary, Wei Ming let me borrow his LC-A+, so that I can join the activity. Unfortunately, I didn’t make it, but I did finish my first roll, and it was a failed one. Since that day, I start searching on the net to find out why I failed. Of course from there, I found Lomography.

And how did you come across the products of Lomography/Lomography for the first time?

It is a continuous story from question 1. After the fail roll with LC-A+, I tried another 2-3 rolls, from negative to slides, and so on. I just couldn’t stop falling in love with the process and the result. It was time to return the camera, however, I wished to continue it. So I decided to get myself an LC-A+. It was my first ever Lomography product which I bought in Hong Kong, during my first travel tour in the year 2009. It has already been 3 years, and it’s still in good condition.

So I heard there’s this very awesome community in Penang – The LomoPenang; are you part of this community?

Yes, I am part of this community.

Did you join any outings / workshops / event organize by this community?

Of course, I always try my best to attend all outings organized by LomoPenang!

What’s the best part of shooting with a bunch of Lomography enthusiasts?

We always have lots of fun, sometimes we make new friends after joining the outing. We do share the ideas and information, chit chat, and of course, we gossip, haha!

Do you enjoy shooting alone or do you prefer shooting together with the community?

Well, it depends. Sometimes, I go to a LomoWalk alone, sometimes with couples of friends. I enjoyed both.

What is the definition of analogue lifestyle to you?

Analogue Lifestyle for me is that I can stay at the place I want, take the picture I love and go through the life for myself. No matter other people will like it or not, not for others but be real to yourself.

The most unforgettable, strangest, funniest or worst photographic/Lomographic that you encounter before?
I used to lose my film and find it under my bed after few year later.

What’s your favorite photo in your collection and why?

The pre-wedding shots for my friend from LomoPenang. I didn’t do much preparation that time, and it was a quick rush for an actual pre-wedding shoot. But luckily, the result was very good. This set of collection help me win a lot of award and competition at Lomography community too.

Are you born in Penang and where is your location now?

Yes, I born in Penang, and currently work at Penang too.

Penang is one awesome island ever in Malaysia, tell us what do you love the most about Penang?
I love the environment, the people and of course the delicious food.

What about the food? Is there any finger licking good food that you love in Penang?

Penang’s foods are always delicious and famous for all. I love Hokkien Mee (known as Prawn Mee), Char Koay Teow, Laksa, Cendol, Ice Kacang…. Oh, I can’t tell it all here, you have to come and enjoy it by yourself.

Where would you bring your friend to go when they pay you a visit at Penang?

I will bring them to the Penang Heritage Area. It has a fascinating fusion of the East and West. It’s reflected in the harmonious multi-racial populace and well-preserved heritage buildings, which led to George Town being accorded a listing as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site recently.

Where do you develop your film at Penang? Do you have any other recommendation and what are the price and any other specific notes?

Kong Beng Photo Studio, processes 35mm films, plus scanning service for RM9 a roll. They offer very reasonable price and great service as well. Here’s the address for the studio, 392, Penang Road 1000 Penang. You can call them (04-2268923) and ask for more information as well.

Thanks for your time! Before we wrap things up, do you mind letting us know which Lomography product is your favorite and why?

Film, of course. I can’t stop buying a lots of film for my cameras.
