Meet Malaysia's Active Community Members from Sabah #7: mishika

This month, let's shift from our biggest state in Malaysia to our most beautiful state, Sabah! We are going to feature some of our most active community members coming from "The Land Below The Wind!" Today, let's explore Sabah together with mishika a.k.a Adibah Azhar!

Hello, tell us a bit about yourself and your Lomographic journey.
Just a Lomo enthusiast who works in the IT industry. I think Lomo is so different from IT because with Lomo, you won’t need CTRL+ALT+DELETE! All you need is to snap the shutter button with a flick of your finger. I was surfing the internet one fine day and came across the Holga 120N. It really caught my eye. Love at first sight! At that time I wasn’t aware of any Lomo community in Malaysia so I bought my first camera, the Holga 120N from Singapore.

Are you part of any local community?
When in Sabah I always snap pictures together with my brother. I have never had the chance to hang out with the Sabah Lomo crowd since their outings happen when I am back in KL.

What’s the best part of shooting with a bunch of Lomography enthusiasts?
It is super exciting and fun! You get to share knowledge, exchange ideas and each time I come back from an outing, I learn more. It actually motivates me to do better.

And the worst?
You can never go wrong hanging out with Lomo friends. Great minds think alike.

Do you enjoy shooting alone or do you prefer shooting together with the community?
Both. Practice makes perfect. This can be done individually or in a group.

Are you born Sabahan and where is your location now?
I wasn’t born in Sabah but my family has been in Sabah for quite some time – Tawau (1984-1989) and Kota Kinabalu (2000 till current). Sabah holds a very special place in my heart. I am currently based in Kuala Lumpur, but I really love going back to Sabah. I try to go back as often as I can (when there are cheap flight tickets!)

Tell us what you love the most about Sabah.
Sabah is the most awesome state in Malaysia! It is diverse and full of culture. It’s very peaceful. Isn’t it cool to wake up in the morning to open one window and see Low’s Peak (Mount Kinabalu) and another window to see the South China Sea?

What is the food you love the most in Sabah?
Amplang and Kuih Cincin!

Where would you bring your friends to go when they visit you at Sabah
Watching wild proboscis monkeys and fireflies at the Kinabatangan River or Klias River, island hoping at the Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre at Sandakan and the most beautiful place on Earth – Sipadan Island!

Where do you develop your film at Sabah? Do you have any other recommendation and what are the price and any other specific notes?
I have never developed my films in Sabah. I did hear that there’s a good place in Kolombong.

Thanks for your time! Before we wrap things up, do you mind letting us know which Lomography product is your favorite and why?
A mother can never pick her favorite out of all her children. I love all my cameras since each and every one is special. Currently, I have been using my LC-Wide a lot. It really lives up to its name – wide. LC-Wide also provides flexibility and versatility in terms of its different options of formats. It is also very light and easily fits in my bag so I can bring it anywhere. I’ve also tried the Krab with my LC-Wide and am really anxious to see the results!
