In the prestigious 2010 Cannes Film Festival, Thai independent filmmaker, director, producer, and screen writer Apichatpong Weerasethakul brought home the coveted Palme d’Or prize for his acclaimed film, Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives. However, “Joe,” as he is fondly called, is no stranger to the world of Cannes. In 2002, his feature Sud Sanaeha (Blissfully Yours), garnered the Un Certain Regard prize. Two years later, another of his feature, Sud Pralad (Tropical Malady), received a Jury Prize from the reputable film festival.

With these noteworthy accomplishments and more in his credit belt, Lomography and MUBI were excited to work with the Thai filmmaker for an analogue masterpiece: a film shot entirely using the LomoKino! The movie, entitled “Ashes,” will premier at the Lomography and MUBI party in this year’s Cannes Film Festival on May 19th. It will also be screened at Lomography Gallery Stores around the world on May 24th, so mark your calendars and prepare to see his LomoKino masterpiece!
