In 2004, the Cannes Film Festival has been showcasing classic films as part of Cannes Classics. Cannes Classics features film prints that have been restored. This year, the 1975 summer blockbuster hit Jaws will be shown in Cannes Classics, along with 12 other feature films, 2 short films, 4 documentaries, and a mini concert. As part of Universal Studio’s 100th-year celebration, they are releasing 100 of their films fully restored, 13 of which are classics.

Jaws takes place in the fictional town of Amity Island, a resort full of beachgoers. With the appearance of a man-eating great white shark, the town’s chief of police seeks help from a marine biologist and a team of experts to eliminate the threat.

Due to the mechanical difficulties experienced with the mechanical sharks, filming was halted on several occasions and the production went over budget. Despite of all this, the film went on to be a huge commercial success and was one of the highest-grossing film when it was released. Even today, the film still remains to be regarded as one of the best films of all time. The fully restored Jaws will be available on Blu-ray on August 14, 2012.
