Street Lomography: Shooting Blind

By " shooting blind," I don't mean you close your eyes when you take photos, but more like a hipshot style, except faster and without too much hesitation. Take a look at some of my photos shot in this style after the jump.

Most of the time, when we take street lomographs, we, either intentionally or out of habit, think about too much about ambient light, film speed, angle, color, filters, contrast, atmosphere. etc. Thus, we lose many touching shots when chances arise, as well as the fun of lomography.

From my own experience, I sometimes wind the camera and raise it to my chest level and click around while walking. I don’t have to look through the viewfinder, to step back or step left, or to consider the framing, the angle, or anything else. I simply click and wind the film and keep going.

I think that this way of street photography is easy-going and does not have too much stress of “getting some stunning shots from the roll.” I call this method of photography as “shooting blind.”

So, dear community members, how do you like this idea? I’d like very much to have your feedback and your shares. After all, don’t take Lomography seriously, it is all about experimenting and adopting another way of seeing and expressing. Don’t forget having fun when taking lomographs!

Fabulous street shots! As one who tends to obsess too much over each shot, I like the "shoot from the chest" idea, I'll give it a try!
