Being new to the whole idea of Lomography, it was only recently, when the La Sardina Quadrat came into my life that I was able to finally enjoy and document my life. This, combined with the beautiful textures and colors of the beach in summer lead to this exciting example of a day at the beach in summer
Point Lonsdale is a small town on the south-eastern coast of Victoria, Australia. Unlike the grey, clinical sprawl of an inner city, with a constant wirelessly driven invasion of technology, this little, humble town allows nature to take over. Equipped with only the bare necessities of technology, I spent my summer exploring the rich history this beach had to give in the form of photography with my La Sardina.
Genesis: The beginning.
Sometimes, the pain and effort one puts into a situation is overwhelmed by the result. A point at which all the hardship fades a way in a moment of pure bliss. Waking up at the crack of dawn, whilst the sky was still a soul-consuming abyss of darkness, just to experience the beautiful sunrise was one such example. Whilst climbing out of bed was a challenge, the moment the sun poked its head over the horizon made it all worth it
Taking a step back in time, I happened to stumble across an old, antiquated remnant of a look-out tower once used in world war one in order to help support Australia’s defenses, designed and positioned in such a way as to be able to monitor any invading forces by sea. Although the concrete box may seem mundane initially, it takes only a moment of being in its presence, mixed with some imagination, to experience the historic significance, the sense that years ago, it was here freedom was on the line. Who knows, perhaps if this lookout didn’t exist, Australia would not be the wonderful country it is today.
It’s Hard to Ignore Good Weather:
Let me paint you a picture: The sky is void of any form of water vapour, any hint of a cloud. The sun is shining, the temperature is rising, its slowly warming up and yet the heat is not at such an extent that one is confined to the safety of an air conditioned room. The puppies are dying to go for a run. What better way to spend a day than at the doggy beach?
Beauty at Night:
Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end and this wonderful day of sunshine was no exception. However, the very fact that we were out of the city, beyond the vast reach of the impure, toxic smog and light-pollution gave rise to an interesting snapshot of my beautiful place of residence at night, mixed with some long exposure light painting just for kicks.
A wonderful summer gives rise to some of the loveliest colors I believe one can experience in nature and the La Sardina was perhaps the best way to capture these colors in their super-saturated glory. However, more importantly it enabled me just to capture it so later, in the dreary depths of winter, I may experience it again. At the end of the day, it’s the sharing of memories and experiences which makes photography so important, so what are you waiting for? I would love to hear about your memories too!
