I can’t bring my entire beloved cameras. So, which should I pick? Which should I go with? Which will I miss most?
I love to travel around. I like to walk around to see the different cultures in a different country or city. I love to see their unique and different living style. I enjoy being part of them.
I always travel light, I just pack clothes needed and some simple personal items. I can do it fast and settle in a short time. I got no headache with packing. It’s an easy job.
But when it came to pick a camera for travel, it was just a dilemma. I got a few analogue cameras with me, all of them are beloved. Just look into my dry box. I do have the LC-A+RL, Horizon Perfekt, Fed 5B, Spinner 360, Pop9, and the newly added Ricoh KR-5. Other than cameras, I also do have accessories such as the wide angle lens, instant back, splitzer, LC-A Krab, colorsplash flash, and ringflash.
So I asked myself, which one should I bring with me? I can’t bring them all; this will make my packing bulky and heavy and I don’t have extra hands to carry all of them. I need to make a decision. I can only bring those that are suited for my travel.
The LC-A+ RL is the best all condition camera. No matter if its day or night, the LC-A+ RL can get the job done nicely. The camera is equipped with a superb light meter, which doesn’t make me worry when I take a picture. The advantages of this camera is that it is lightweight, it has a unique lens, and it is small. When combined with the wide angle lens, instant back, splitzer or Krab, it instantly becomes an unbeatable camera. The camera is good but it still has some disadvantage. When attached with a flash, it is difficult to control the exposure. I still prefer to manually control the camera when it comes to flash.
The Horizon Perfekt is my lover. I love landscapes and the Horizon Perfekt is the best camera to capture all the stunning sceneries. With the aperture and shutter speed setting, I don’t worry about the weather condition. But for sure, to capture a stunning landscape, I still hope for the best weather. The disadvantage of the camera is its size and weight. The Horizon Perfekt is a huge and heavy camera; it’s not suitable to hang around the neck.
The Spinner 360 is another best choice for travel. The 360-degree capture of the view with the sprocket, the outcome is so special and unique. Just hold it and pull the string, everything around and including me, will be captured in the film. The disadvantage is limited aperture selection. Pulling the string to capture a photo is not an ideal way when in dim light conditions. Maybe the new accessory (Motorizer) can solve the problem. But I don’t have it yet.
The Pop9 is a unique camera. It captures a single picture in 9 frames. It’s good to create something special, but it’s not a choice for me to pick to travel with.
Ricoh KR-5 is a vintage SLR. Since it’s an SLR, its capability is unquestionable. I can take close up shots with the lens I have. The disadvantage is the size and weight, which is big and bulky.
The Fed 5B is a rangefinder camera. People call it as a cheap “Leica”. Yes, it is a nice camera, especially when taking portraits. But Fed 5B is heavy and I’m slow when come to focus, things around just won’t wait for me.
So, it is time to decide. I will decide depending on the situation. If I travel around by driving, then I can bring more cameras. I can put them in my car because I have a lot of space. If I travel without driving, then I have to pick. I will pick LC-A+RL with wide angle lens. If I still have some space in my luggage, then I will bring Horizon Perfekt with me. Spinner 360 is the third to follow if I still have some space.
That’s my choice. Which will you choose?
