My Self-Portrait: Making a Mark with My Adidas Samba

Many have done self-portraits in so many creative ways. Most of us do it to somehow show our audience a glimpse of who we are or the camera we so dearly love. But for some, their self-portraits have become a mark of identity that whenever you see those photos, you will know it’s that person.

Self-portraits, especially in lomography, has become a creative venue showing our viewers a glimpse of the lomographer himself / herself. But, how does one make a mark with self-portrait shots? For me, it was the subconscious way of shooting my shoe. Well, most lomographers have done it. But for me it was something that, I think, would identify me for the rest of my lomography days.

I have been wearing Adidas Samba sneakers since college days. It has become my all-time favorite shoe. If one pair got worn out, instead of buying another kind of sneakers, I would still buy that same kind of black Samba sneakers. Some friends would notice that for the longest time my sneakers aren’t wearing out, not noticing that it was a new pair. If some other day I would wear a different kind of sneaker, one would comment that he had always thought of me as a Adidas kind of guy. So there, my friends have known me for it and subconsciously, I have shot my shoes for most of my rolls.

It has become a sort of self-portrait for me and now I’m thinking, this would be like my mark as a lomographer. So if ever you see a Adidas Samba shoe on a lomograph, then that would probably be me.
