Australian artist Justine Khamara brings photographs to life by creating larger-than-life sculptures using mixed media such as laser-cut stainless steel, fiberglass, and balls. Big balls. See her work below.
In the advent of digital photography, soft copies of photos end up being shared and perused on social networking sites instead of being printed, framed or mailed. But Melbourne-based artist Khamara shoots, cuts, glues, strings, collages, and even UV prints colour photographs into tangible and multidimensional art installations.
These photographic balls (with a giant 2.2m diameter mother, Erysichthon’s Ball) are made of hundreds of mosaic-like colour photographs on polymer based fiberglass and wood.
These scaling portraits (which kind of remind me of Time-Lapse Paper Portraits) are UV printed photographs on laser-cut stainless steel.
Khamara has so much more ingenious and impressive sculputral work which incorporate photographs, including this creepy collaged mask entitled G’Day.
