Documentary Photographs of Old Hong Kong from the 50s to the 70s!

Recently, we accidentally found a Facebook Page with a lot of interesting “Old Hong Kong” photos and we would like to share them with you!

Mr Chung Man Lurk, Documentary Photographer

This is the Facebook Page, where the photos are all taken by a documentary photographer, Mr. Chung Man Lurk. The Facebook Page is believed to have been created by his son. It has been said in recent years that the Hong Kong of yester-years is still better. We all have our own opinions but as each generation faces different needs and pressures, there isn’t an objective way to compare across different eras.

Regardless, it is fortunate that we have cameras and photos to immortalize the moment in time. They offered our younger generation a chance to glimpse into the Hong Kong of the past, and to understand how folks then dealt with their daily grind in silence.

Everyone might have different definitions of documentary photography, but the one thing that’s for sure is that each of our photos capture the present, and subsequently form part of our memories!
