This month we are going to feature some of our most active community members in Johor, Malaysia! Today, let's check out what's happening in Johor together with Shahrul a.k.a nazz_jb.
Name: Mohd Shahrul Nazree Mohd Shariff
Occupation: Graphic Designer
City/Country: Johor Bahru, Malaysia
LomoAge: 5 years
Hello, tell us a bit about yourself and your Lomographic journey.
Hi, I’m Shahrul, a full-time graphic designer and I love random photography. In 2002, I read an article about Lomography in KLUE magazine, and then a college friend brought a ColorSplash camera camera and some prints that he shot. Since then I’ve been saving hard to buy a Lomo camera.
Show us your favorite photo in your collection and why?
This is my all time favorite, it’s called “Swirling Down.” I like it because I never thought that cheap camera and cheap film can get such great color saturation.
Are you part of any local community and since when you have been active in this community?
Yes. I’m part of Analogue Freak and also Effekts (lomokidS). It started in 2010 when me and some of the members of Lomokids, Fad and Kamal Faiz (who are both staying in Johor Bharu as well), wanted to get along and have more frequent activities/outing in Johor. Our first outing was great when there turned out to be about 15 Lomographers out to have fun.
That’s great! Tell us the latest projects or upcoming events organized by this community?
Currently, we are having an ongoing project called LLJB 2012 (Ultimate LomoLocation JB/Johor 2012). This project is about capturing and documenting great locations/attractions in Johor Bharu as a guide for other Lomographers when they visit Johor. We also have plan to do workshops for film developing class in near future.
Wow, sounds fun! Tell us what the best part shooting with a bunch of Lomography enthusiasts?
The best part is when you can exchange ideas and tips with others.
And the worst?
It’s about having fun together, so I can’t think any worst thing about it.
Are you born Johorian and which part of Johor do you stay?
I am born Johorian and I live at Johor Bahru.
Tell us what do you love the most about Johor?
It’s the food of course and the seaside at the east coast of Johor.
What is the food you love the most in Johor?
Kacang Pool and Asam Pedas Johor.
Where would you bring your friend to go when they visit you at Johor?
Seaside at mersing and some small fishing village.
Where do you develop your film at Johor? Do you have any other recommendation and what is the price and any other specific notes?
I usually develop the film by myself. Only sometimes when I’m too lazy and busy with work I will send it to Robin Photo Lab at Taman Sentosa, Johor Bharu. It’s cost you around RM15 for developing plus scanning.
Thanks for your time and recommendation! Before we wrap things up, do you mind letting us know which is your favorite Lomography gadget and why?
LC-Wide (even though I haven’t had one), because it’s a great camera for street shooting, a wide angle camera, and easy to use. Remember, less is more.
