Double Meaning Trouble

Do you agree with me that double-exposing your film means bringing trouble to yourself? Some people will describe it by saying, "Well, I just want to take a risk. I really think that it could be different in the way we see in reality." Or, some people might even say that you must have your luck and faith in your picture while you plan to the take doubles. So, which person do you agree with? The 1st, 2nd, or 3rd?

So what is the first choice when grabbing a camera? The meaning of a good camera to me is that it needs to be user-friendly and good-looking. Well, the camera I always use to double expose my films with is my Smena 8M that I bought it from a friend. Before I bought this camera, I did some research of how the picture will look like and will it hard to using not. Well, after few weeks I plan to grab it.

The first roll of films I loaded it with my positive film. Honestly, the result is just so so, like nothing special. Some of them even had blur from handshake, because that’s so new to me then to handling it. Then, I with the 2nd and 3rd roll of films, I started using negative films. The result? WORST! Lots of them weren’t good because of the aperture and some because of handshake. After all of this kind of disappointment, I tried to giving up a little while and keeping the camera in my wardrobe for not letting myself feeling guilty to grab the camera.

After few months, there’s an event from LOMO PENANG. It’s a group Penang, Malaysia. They always manage to create a challenging and lovely theme as an outing of the day for everyone to get involved with. After a few rolls, I failed to get some nice picture with that camera, it feels like I want to try it for one last time to see whether it can impress me or not. If the answer is NO, then I probably will sell it out. Luckily, after the outing that I learned about the “10 Golden Rules.” Guess what, the picture that I took were stunning, like I never took them with any camera before! After that, I kept using it until now!

For the color negative film, I think I still need a little bit of improvement while the positive film, that is what I am hoping for! Lastly, I’m hoping that you guys try to communicate with the ‘bad’ camera that you bought; maybe they just need some skill on it. Good Luck!

I love my 8m but my Symbol is being an idiot. I use LaSardina and FisheyeNo.2 for double exposure usually as simple is better, lol.
