Paul Newman Hugging Joanne Woodward While Playing the Trombone Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward were married for 50 years until his death. Most likely Paul Newman picked up this instrument in Martin Ritt's Paris Blues starring him as trombone-playing Ram Bowen along Sidney Poitier.
