Hello! Tell us a bit about yourself.
Hey, I’m Shareen. I love to learn new things and I’ve been dabbling in photography since I was a kid. It’s something I picked up from my dad. Besides that, I love to travel and Lomography has given me an opportunity to make a lot of new friends from around the world that share a common passion. I also love to sing! So, anyone for a round of karaoke?
How many Lomography cameras do you have in your collection?
Let me see, I have to count them all! Yeah I’ve got a lot. About 16? Okay, let’s just say I only don’t own a Horizon Perfekt, Pop9, and Lubitel …yet!
We’re sure it’s hard to pick one, but which Lomography camera is your all time favourite? And which camera is on your wishlist right now?
Of course, my favourite is the LC-A+! I’ve got 3 of them at the moment and I gave each of them a name; yep I’m one of those! My latest addition is the LC-A+ RL which I named Lenin. I bring it almost everywhere. The item on my wishlist right now is the Spinner 360 Motorizer. It’s such a beast! It’ll definitely be a great addition to my collection. Gotta save up for it!
Please share with us your top 3 favourite shots (taken by yourself, of course) ever, and tell us a bit about each photo.
This self portrait shot was from the second roll on Barney — my Holga 120GCFN. Me and fellow Lomographer stonerfairy were shooting in front of the old Butter Factory, a club near Robertson Quay and they had this lovely installation of mirrors and I used it to take this shot using the red flash on the Holga. It turned out much better than expected! It’s one of my first favourites!
I shot this on Laetitia-Light-Leaks, my LC-A+ whilst on vacation in Europe last year. My friend and I were walking through the streets of Paris and I just stopped and took a shot of her as she crossed the street. Paris has such amazing architecture so I think this shot captured a Paris moment. It certainly has a vintage feel to it. I simply love it!
This shot was from my first doubles with a fellow Lomographer from overseas and it’s none other than with ripsta, the Lomo star from Ipoh, Malaysia. We had an interesting doubles album. I was pretty nervous about the results as I shot the roll first then ripsta did the second layer. Overall, I think it blended pretty well even though we didn’t set a specific theme for it. Unexpected results are always the best!
What do you like about the Lomography community?
I made so many friends in Singapore and overseas through Lomography. Everyone’s so welcoming and friendly. It’s interesting to see how people from different walks of life, ages and nationalities can come together for a common purpose. I got the opportunity to meet up with an overseas Lomographer eyecon when he was in Singapore a few years ago. I was pretty nervous at first coz he’s quite a Lomo celebrity but such a nice and friendly guy! Over the years I also got the chance to meet my Lomofriends in their own countries; Malaysia – Johor Bahru, Ipoh and Penang, France – Paris and Indonesia – Jakarta and Bandung.
And some even made their way to Singapore!
There’s a also a lot of sharing within the community – experimentation, advice and tips and of course, their beautiful photographs. It’s such an inspiration. So much Lomo lovin’ to share!
As a Lomography Singapore Community Star, do you want to share any advice or tips for Lomographers out there?
Well, the first thing is grab a friend, go out and shoot – just let those creative juices flow. Experiment with different elements. Don’t give up, nothing is too crazy. And if you feel you lack the inspiration to shoot, go on a journey with your cameras and get acquainted with your Lomofriends — be it within your own neighborhood, across the causeway or a different part of the world! I’m sure they know loads of exciting places to shoot and explore. Lastly, have fun!
