In January, I got a last minute invite to the launch party of the Birmingham pop-up Lomography shop located in Selfridges in the Bull Ring. Having grown up in the Midlands, and excited they were getting their own shop, I booked my coach quicker than you could say "photos and free beer."
Selfridges is a huge department chain store located right in the centre of Birmingham’s bull ring. An iconic modern building, I was so excited to learn that Lomography was going to get a pop-up shop there and was keen to go to the launch party. It’s at a great location on the 2nd floor and you can spot it from quite a distance as it is one of the more colorful and fun-looking parts of the shop. Also it was easy to spot on the night I visited it as there was music blaring from the speakers and lots of interested people milling around and looking at the lomography goodies.
We had a lovely evening at the party! The staff, as in most of the “real” stores I have visited are really really friendly and helpful, even made camera shaped like cookies to accompany the beer!
It was a really good opportunity to catch up with a few Midlands-based Lomographers, have a look at some lovely products, and essentially have a party in a big shop! Not to mention that Selfridges is one of my favourite stores ever anyway! The store looks great, the atmosphere was great and we really enjoyed ourselves at this event. I wish I lived a bit closer so that I could visit it again as this is one of the best Lomography locations I have been too. I love all the sea-themed decor!
