Here is a short overview of my cousin's wedding in a small Russian town. Read on and you will learn about bread and salt tradition!
A wedding is certainly a special event, and it must be shot with special cameras! When I was invited to the wedding of my cousin Natasha, I was sure I wouldn’t take my digital camera with me. I have chosen an LC-A.
A piece of advice: if you shoot indoors, please be sure to use high speed film. I like black and white film, and I have chosen Ilford Delta 400 for this event. Try to take photos of the bride before the wedding, as such pictures look nice and tender.

There is a tradition in Russia to welcome the bride and the groombride with bread and salt. Why bread and salt? It has several explanations. Earlier in the day, people grew wheat and baked bread themselves. It was a hard work, and salt was very expensive, that’s why the parents welcomed the newlyweds with the best food that they could get.

Secondly, bread symbolizes health and wealth, and salt protects from the evil.
And lastly, according to the tradition, the bride left her family to live with her husband in his house, and if his parents gave her bread and salt, it meant, that she was accepted into her new family. That’s why the mother of the groombride should keep the bread.

My cousin was surpised to see these vivid photos taken using a small analogue camera! She didn’t expect such results.
My piece of advice to you: don’t give up when people make fun of your Lomography camera. Just show them the processed photos, and they will understand who is right! Lomo on!
The Lomo LC-A is the camera that started the Lomography movement. With full controls and wide ISO range, this automatic gem is perfect for beginners and professionals alike. Get your own Refurbished LC-A in our Shop!
