Steven Siegel has been documenting New York for the past 3 decades. Let’s take a look at some of his photos of New York in the 1980’s.

Steven Siegel was born in 1953 in New York, New York. He is known for being a sculptor and he uses recycled materials, such as cans, bottles, and newspapers. Apart from his sculptures, he also has a photo project that he began about 3 decades ago. He documented the 5 boroughs of New York – New York, Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn, and Staten Island.
His shots show how much these boroughs have changed. Some examples of his work can be seen on the gallery below. These are photos of New York in the 1980’s and each photo tells a story. There’s a photo of the Brooklyn Bridge, the Thunderbolt in Coney Island, Junkyard Subway, and a couple of teens playing at a graveyard in Green-wood cemetery. When older people see his photos, they are reminded of the past and how much everything was different then that it is now. Somehow they feel nostalgic and they are reminded of the authenticity of New York. For the young ones, the photos seem unrecognizable.
