Love at First Lomo: My Dearest Holga 135 BC

Before I became a lomographer, I knew nothing about film and analogue photography, until I joined this community 8 months ago. I did some research before I bought my first Lomography camera. I was looking for a camera which is reasonably cheap and is capable of producing good photos, and that is how I met my dearest Holga 135 BC.

My first roll was a little bit saddening. I spent a week to finish it and after rewinding it, I found that I didn’t load the film properly. I realized it when I was advancing the wheel, the rewinding knob didn’t turn. So I had to take the film to the shop where I bought my Holga to help me pull out the film leader, so that it doesn’t go to waste.

After that incident, I did more research regarding the Holga 135 BC. I learned that it works the best on sunny days and never shoot indoors without a flash. Then, I loaded back the film into my Holga.

I spent another week to finish the roll and I immediately sent it to a photolab to be developed. The photolab said that it would take a week to develop my film and that made me feel frustrated, but my frustration went away after seeing my first photos. The saturated colours and awesome vignetting effect, I loved them all.

Since then, I experimented it with slide, redscale and low-ISO films. All of the photos turned out really nice except some of the redscale shots which turned out a little bit underexposed. I have not loaded any black-and-white film into my Holga though. I will probably will load one sooner or later.

Holga 135 BC is a very experimental camera and that is why I still shoot with it. Recently, I just did doubles with mephisto19 using it and the results are awesome!
