A Psychedelic Art & History Museum is Coming to San Francisco!

A 'Haight-Ashbury Museum of Psychedelic Art and History' is in the works! It is to be located in the famous San Francisco district it's named for. This first of it's kind, this museum will pay homage and showcase the historical value of the psychedelic decade and the center of it all - Haight-Ashbury.

Perhaps this proposed museum is seen as the result of “out of the box thinking”, much like the collective of people in the Haight-Ashbury during the San Francisco Renaissance. Besides the theme for the museum,- the psychedelic 60s, another element that’s unique is how the museum is going about obtaining their capital. As is the nature of museums, artifacts of cultural, historical, and artistic importance are collected and assembled for public viewing. Seeing as it’s for the public, why not then ask the public to help co-create it!

With a fundraising campaign on the online fundraising platform IndieGoGo, this is exactly what the psychedelic museum is doing! Now that’s living by the go-getter attitude that was rife in the ‘do-ocracy’ that was Haight-Ashbury.

Watch an introductory video by organizers, about the proposed museum!

And for those of you who know little to nothing about the influential bohemian district, we’ll clue you in to some of it’s heyday highlights… Just imagine, people of all ages, from teenagers and college students to military personnel, flocking to the district after being let off school for vacation. Also imagine what strain one neighborhood could undergo with such an influx, which is what happened to Haight-Ashbury. While music and love was to be found, all around, so were drug problems, homelessness and crime.
