WHO: Johnny Cash
WEBSITE: http://johnnycash.com/
Crossing genres from country to rockabilly to blues and folk, Johnny Cash is undoubtedly one of the greatest American musicians. Known for his rebellious, melancholic manner and his trademark bass-baritone voice, he had a preference for dark clothing, earning him the nickname “The Man In Black”.
Cash’s songs expressed sentiments of sorrow and redemption, and he continued to record until his death in 2003, upon the insistence of his wife June Carter Cash. In 2002, he covered a haunting version of a Nine Inch Nails song – “Hurt” – accompanied with an equally memorable music video directed by Mark Romanek. “Hurt” was one of Cash’s hit releases before his passing.
