This is a story of boy meets a camera -- the story of how I fell in love with the Lomo LC-Wide.
The boy, grew up believing that he’d never truly be happy until the day he met his soulmate. There’s something about the Lomo LC-Wide that just makes it one of the best cameras ever made. Maybe it’s the 17mm ultra-wide lens, or the option to use full, square or half-format shots, or maybe it’s simply because of the classic Lomography vintage look and feel, that makes this camera a love at first sight.
There was a sudden shyness after opening the box, would I be good enough to take the amazing shots the LC-Wide could offer, would I remember to change the ISO settings? But after loading the film the fear melted away, and was replaced by mind-blowing excitement.
We went on our first Lomo walk thru my hometown, where I got to grips with the awe inspiring “mx” button. Some multiple exposures, sunsets and historic buildings later we were best pals.
Since then we have been on many electrifying trips including: London, Walt Disney World, Clearwater Beach, Bournemouth and Cardiff. Thru castles and rollercoasters to beaches and night clubs, applying a variety of techniques and colors. Using full, square and half-format frames and a variety of color slide, color negative, black & white and redscale films. The more I shoot with the LC-Wide the more I love it. The feel, the anticipation of the developed shots and the overall enchantment this camera has, is too much to resist, making it an instant hit.
And this is only the beginning. Who know’s where we will go next. All I know is – go wide or go home.
