Looking at Nu Ryu’s artwork, one might wonder where she gets her inspiration from. The elements on each canvass tell a story that will transport you into another world. According to the artist, the inspiration behind the paintings were adventures that she had as a youngster. She would follow creatures like frogs, trying to catch them. She’s also take time to observe snails or earthworms in their natural environment. With these, she discovered a different world, and soon other creatures and plants that she stumbled upon in the process.

The main theme of these paintings is adaptation and the relationship between us humans, and nature. What’s even more amazing is that she doesn’t plan about what she’s going to paint on the canvas – no initial sketches, and no other references. The first image that comes to mind when she’s working is the one that’s seen as the final result. Nu Ryu also takes into consideration other Korean artists who love to create artwork having nature as the focal point. Because of all these, she’s able to tell a story through her paintings.
