In 1995, The Smashing Pumpkins released a double-album representing day and night - "Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness". It's one of the most successful albums during the '90s, which also spawned the most memorable and very creative videos in MTV history.

Mellon Collie and The Infinite Sadness is split into two discs/cassette tapes: (1) Dawn to Dusk and (2) Twilight to Starlight. The vinyl version is split into three records, 2 sides each – (1 and 2) Dawn/Tea Time, (3 and 4) Dusk/Twilight, (5 and 6) Midnight/Starlight. Frontman Billy Corgan worked closely with graphic designer Frank Olinsky during the conceptualization of the album art.
What made the album so memorable was the variety of musical styles and instruments used – from the classic, melancholic melodies of the piano used in the title track, to the majestic orchestra in Tonight, Tonight, drum loops, guitar layers, and even salt shakers scattered all throughout the album’s twenty-eight tracks.

My favorite was Siamese Dream. Less polished than this album but all the better for it i think.
