Lana Del Rey, born in 1986 in New York City, is one of the most inspiring artists in the baroque pop scene. Del Rey released her first album entitled “Kill Kill” in 2010, and soon she will released her second album called “Born to Die.” Lana is a real analogue lover, as you can see in her music videos.
The videoclip of “Video Games” is full of analog references: partly filmed with 35mm video cameras and sometimes Super 8mm video cameras. There are also lots of photographers shooting with old analog cameras, lots of very old analog images, sometimes old cartoons (done in stop-motion) and finally. some cool street skater scenes.
At the beginning of the video “Blue Jeans,” you will suddenly see someone picking an Eastman Ektachrome Super 8 Color Reversal Film. There is always the same atmosphere from the previous videoclip: blurred images, super 8mm and 35mm video camera parts, and an original “vintage smell” in the whole video. In the lyrics, there is also a reference to James Dean, a clear reference to another era.
In “Kinda Outta Luck” there are hundreds of references to old movies, old cartoons, and old TV ads. It’s another example of what this girl can do.
“Yayo” is different from the previous videos, but has the same warm feeling and atmosphere.
What do you think of Lana Del Rey and her analogue-rich music videos?
