My 2011 in Analogue: From London to Marrakech, Paris, and Valencia

From London to Marrakech, from Paris to Valencia. Read about my 2011 adventures in analogue after the jump!

My Lomography year of 2011 started with a trip to Marrakech, the capital of Morocco, to celebrate my birthday. This place was always on my list. I took photos of the beautiful Marrakech airport, the airport bus stop, and lovely shadows. It was the first time I have tried Lomography slide film. Also, from this trip, my collection of chair pictures started. It grew enormously through the year.

In March, I was fortunate enough to be hired by the London’s Big Issue magazine to photograph a reportage about Spitalfields market using film cameras. I enjoyed it a lot and my pictures received the double spread.

In April we travelled to Dorset for the first time. Easter break at the Jurassic coast of England was a beautiful thing to do. We were very lucky with the weather (+25) and did a lot of hiking.

In May, we travelled to Valencia, Spain, to visit my brother for the first time in 2011. It was really nice to see my niece as well. She is a little pretty daisy. On that trip I tried Lomography Redscale film for the first time. I also took photos of Santiago Calatrava’s amazing architecture, which I never get tired of.

In June, I have enjoyed another film-based commercial assignment—I had to photograph a hen party.

In July, I went to Berlin for the first time to visit some friends. There, I photographed the city’s famous landmarks, more chairs for my collection, and even my beautiful friend sleeping.

In August, I did some doubles with my dear lomo-pal, dakavev_pui.

In September a lot of things happened. First, we went on a massive lomo rally across the Spain and Portugal. We did 2500 km in total. We drove from Valencia to Sierra Nevada mountains, via Tavira to Sagres in the South of Portugal. We returned to Valencia, visiting towns of Evora, Estremoz, Elvas in Portugal and a magical place called Spanish Siberia in the Extremadura provenance of Spain, along with Cordoba and Albacete. The photo set below includes the Umbrella Festival in Evora, one of the most beautiful towns on Earth; a double exposure which consists of the layers taken in the Holland gardens of London and incredible mosque of Cordoba; and La Mesquita de Cordoba.

On my return to London, I received another incredible film-based assignment. I had to photograph 50 cocktails made by the famous mixologist Dre Masso for the cocktail menu of The Social, one of London’s top establishments.

In October, I re-visited my favorite English sea town, Whitstable, famous for its oysters.

In November, I traveled to Paris for the Paris Photo festival. I decided to focus on photographing people rather than the art works presented. And of course, I took a shot of Moulin Rouge.

Finally, in December, I have traveled to Valencia again. I got back 2 days ago, so I didn’t have an opportunity to get the films processed yet. That’s why I’m sharing with you another discovery of 2011— the Splitzer! I used it when I took photos of Richmond Park, Tower Bridge, and St. Paul’s Cathedral.

I hope you enjoyed following my “little” Lomography adventure through the year of 2011! I wish everyone a very Lomo-prolific year of 2012!

Lovely adventure through 2011. I'm not sure if I remember it correctly but reading the portion about your visit to your brother brings to mind that episode on he being bitten by jellyfishes(?) while swimming in the sea and you had to rush him to the hospital. I love how that whole experience which ended with your brother getting well was wonderfully told in your blog and in your photos. Looking forward to more and more beautiful sharing from you - lomograph-wise and narratives. Keep spilling your beautiful mind and talents to the world - the world that seems thirsty of fresh views on the extraordinariness of ordinary adventures every day. You're specially gifted, my friend!

@lakandula thank you so much for your kind words!
but it was my best friend, not my brother, who was attacked by some fish, not the jellyfish.
because of this my brother immediately bought himself swimming shoes,
