My 2011 in Analogue: What a Year!

I was asked to submit around ten photos of my 2011, but 10 is almost nothing if you know that I uploaded over 12,000 photos in 2011. So here you can see my lomographic year, including some blog posts, music and LomoKinos. Enjoy reading and have a great 2012!

2011 is almost over and thinking about what had happened throughout the year is a nice way of also looking through my own photos again, refreshing memories and seeing what changed – and a lot changed.

First of all I turned 30 in January. 30 is always a huge step (though I still do not understand why). Instead of doing those strange German countryside rituals (like sweeping in a public place until being kissed by a virgin) I decided to make a very lomographic birthday: I asked the community on Lomography in a private blog post to send my films with tasks to fulfill for doubles. The aim was to get 30 films to shoot on my birthday. It was less but still a lot to do. Thanks again for everybody who joined and I still have some films. Sorry guys for that. Some I could not get out of the canisters, for others I needed a certain camera. I will shoot them, promise, but it might still take a while.

One of the doubles I made with nural

Here is the magazine article showing the results of my Birthday Project

But that was only the beginning. I also planned to publish one new album per day “Old Photos Of The Day”, so photographs I took before I started with Lomography in August 2005. But that was not doable. I could not find the time to scan at least one old album per day to keep the photos coming, because I was shooting to much new stuff.

Here is one sample of one of my older photos:

taken with a SLR and some color negative film

One of my blog posts drew some attention: ‘Playing with the Lubitel 166+’ in which I wrote about the nice aspects of using the Lubitel166+ to create couples or pairs of photos.

The consequence was that “Couples and Pairs” was the first theme of my monthly rumble that started in March.

After reading an article about different types of night shots I started working with “HQME” (High Quantity Multiple Exposure" also in day time. If you want to know more about that technique, please read my tipster

April is World Pinhole Photography Day and it is celebrated annually. This year, it landed on Easter Sunday. Of course did I join by taking some pinhole photos with different cameras on that day.

My most popular Photo of the Year (it was also photo of the day) was taken on a LomoWalk with Manja in Nijmegen, the Netherlands. It was taken with my Holga 120 GN and Lomography Redscale XR

At first it did not get that much attention, but I was and am convinced that it is one of my best photos ever, so I wrote a blog post to encourage people to like and comment on my red masterpiece.

It was somehow the year of blog posts. Thanks again to LSI to adding that feature again to our LomoHomes! Another successful and very private blog post was IF YOU LEAVE ME NOW – a combination of writing and photography dedicated to my boyfriend.

The theme of one of my rumbles was based on another blog postTraditional and local food.

In May I had the chance to join a competition in Utrecht called “Utrecht over Utrecht”, where you could hand in art work in several categories. I of course submitted some Lomographs, mirrored photos I took in Utrecht, but I also tried to submit a sound work (which was rejected as it did not fulfill the criteria of being written).

I already mentioned that LSI RE-introduced the private blog posts and that I started back in 2005. In those older days, the site looked completely different and other people where active. I tried to bring those people back to the new site, show them to the actual community, as they invented some of the techniques (or at least brought them to Lomography) we all are so familiar with. The article is called The Big 5 and I still think you all should have a look at the amazing and stunning photographs those five people took! So please follow this link to my blog and after that go to the LomoHomes of the Big Five Thanks!

In the end of May I also had the chance to widen my horizon by going to Split, Croatia with my university class of Professor Corinna Schnitt
I took some photos there and I had the chance, to try out revolog films.

My first time working for Lomography the Netherlands was on MadNes festival on the island Ameland. MadNes (called after the city Nes on Ameland) is a skate and surf festival and I was part of the Lomography team that gave workshops with the new La Sardina and the Diana F+. We also made a LomoMatrix which was big fun!

Another part of my art work is Light Painting or Light Drawing. I continued working on that, too.

A big rumble I really, really would have loved to win was the Shoot Your Prophecy Competition. I did several things to bring that one home: multiple exposures with the posters and Lomo fashion, but unfortunately i was not not the lucky winner, my shots are still there though and still good anyways, winning or not.

What was a succes was the Lomography Dream Date Competition. You had to write a blog post how you would spend a dream date with your beloved one(s) and had the chance to win 250€ to fulfill your dreams. I joined the competition with this small blog entry and won! Thanks again for that. But as life is always changing plans, my man and I did not make it to Vienna and to see the Lomography HeadQuater, but we went to Frankfurt instead, met my best friend there and I took many, many nice photos. I still have to upload most of them and I will write a little blog about that wonderful week. Here a little preview of some photos:

Something I started in 2011 is the film length panorama, so Holgaramas or Dianaramas that actually only have ONE shot on the entire roll, an overlapping photo like this one:

The problem is the scanning. It is very difficult to not cover the light sensor and change colors due to that. So there is more to come, but that will really take a while!

To try to describe my way of working I wrote a blog post called Work in progress / In Arbeit It shows some of the techniques I already mentioned earlier in this entry and sums up what I am doing.

Since July I am “officially” living in Utrecht, the Netherlands. Officially does not mean registered, as I still study in Germany, but officially as part of the house community my boyfriend is living in. So my focus changed a lot to the Netherlands, that beautiful little country!
Therefore I could take part in taking photos at the “HollandFestival”, a huge theatre, music and dance festival. I shot some backstage photos of a hungarian production of “Leonce und Lena”.

One of the fellow Lomographers I met this year was Coralie or ecchymoses. She spent some months in Groningen, the Netherlands and luckily we had the chance to see each other more than once and in different cities. One thing we did together was going to Kinderdijk, UNESCO wWorld Heritage to see the windmills and – of course – take photos of them. Thank you so much, Coralie, for the wonderful time!

And here some photos of Coralie:

Since October I have been working for the Lomography Gallery Store in Amsterdam and give, together with Ehud or paramir every Sunday and also during the week, different Lomo Workshops – a very nice thing and so good to see and meet all those new enthusiasts! It is always much fun and I hope you will all come to the beautiful shop, too, one day!

Inspired by the revolog films I made some effect films myself. I will continue experimenting with that in 2012, also some new LabRats will follow (I still have to scan them)

What was new in 2011 was the LomoKino and it is so much fun shooting films with it! The post production (scanning and making the movie) takes very long though still convince the results me that all this work is good!

My very first LomoKino was taken with a camera from the Lomography Gallery Store in Amsterdam and it made me dizzy as I did not expect it to be that long

I am making some more movies and will upload them all. So please just look out for more LomoKinos in the movie section on my LomoHome.

So what happen in 2012? From January 22nd on I will have a small exhibition in a Café in Hannover, Kaffeebar Rossi. There will also be more workshops at the LGS Amsterdam, Please check out the event calendar for more information And anything else? No clue yet – but surprise me!

And I really, really want to thank everybody who made projects with me, doubles, sharing cameras, films, workshops! THANK YOU, guys!

Here is now a small selection of 2011, call it overview or whatever.

Lots of LomoLove for 2012!
