My 2011 in Analogue: Life in Photos

To be honest, I've been a terrible lomographer this 2011. While I've been able to shoot a lot mostly during my travels, I haven't been able to actually take my precious film to be developed! So it is with a heavy heart that I submit my year ender article filled with photos taken by my lovely instax cameras.

The year 2011 marked a bunch of highs and lows for me personally and career-wise but I wouldn’t say that it was a bad year. It was…quite alright. I started the year with a bit of traveling, jetting off to Seoul to interview Dara Park of 2NE1 fame. It was an incredibly quick trip, I was in and out of Seoul before I could get frostbite. That was in early February and it was incredibly cold! (I come from a tropical country so I’m not used to such weather)

The following month, I was back in Seoul touring factories and stuffing my face with all the kalbi that they kept serving – with a side of kimchi of course. I think I even gained a few pounds during that trip because my pants were annoyingly too tight one morning.

Aside from stuffing myself with grilled meat and those incredibly hard-to-resist, french fry coated sausages, I also enjoy sampling random fastfood fare especially at Lotteria.

What followed next were a series of highs and lows – summer came and went like a blur then it was all work, work, work ‘til my birthday, which was in August. To be honest, I can’t even remember if I was able to celebrate it properly because I was actually preparing for another trip for early September – and can you guess where I went? Yep, I went to Seoul again. I love that city so much that I can’t get enough of it, never mind that I was all alone during that trip, it actually gave me freedom to explore the city at my own leisure. My week in Seoul was absolutely awesome, I ended up with these annoyingly humongous blisters on my feet but I didn’t care, I finally got to do the touristy and non touristy things that I’ve always wanted to do like visit the Teddybear Museum at Seoul Tower, check out Lotteworld, hoard Korean beauty products, check out different palaces, and eat whatever I want. (I’ll upload the photos as soon as I have my films processed, I promise!) At the end of the trip my luggage was 8kilos overweight and of course, I overspent but it was well worth it. It’s the best birthday gift that I’ve given to myself.

I’m semi-obsessed with visiting the Teddybear Museum because my favorite K-drama of all time is Princess Hours!;p
I experienced major “lock” fail at Namsan Tower! I tried putting my own lock and it wouldn’t close! I guess you really have to bring your partner with your to be able to do it right? Hmpfft…

Just a couple of weeks after that Seoul sojourn, I found myself with a bunch of doctors in Guangzhou attending a conference on the latest cancer treatments. While I’m no medical expert, it was actually a very eye-opening experience. Having spent a week there – and I totally regret not bringing the Instax Wide instead, I got used to drinking hot water instead of cold water, I tried eating fried maggots (which I don’t recommend), and I even managed to wake up before noon every single day even though my roommate kept me up ‘til 3 in the morning, every single day. Sorry my Instax photos during my Guangzhou trip aren’t good at all, as I used expired film on these. Anyway, if you haven’t been to Guangzhou before, it’s actually a very nice city.

It’s always a feast during meal time at Guangzhou…mainly because our gracious host always wants us to be happily stuffed.
Shopping in Guangzhou? Beijing Road makes it easy for you…especially if you’re pressed for time.

Aside from all that traveling, what else did I end up doing this year? Hmm…I ate a lot! (Which I shouldn’t even be doing in the first place – so much for self control) I interviewed a bunch of people, got into stupid fights, shopped too much, and read less (I must catch up on my reading this 2012!). It’s also the year when I bought my Instax Wide – I highly recommend this camera! And a DIY TLR camera that I’m excited to use very soon – I just have to ask my friend Diwi for some tips because the film isn’t loading properly. Ack! All in all, a good year I guess? (And we’re finally through with my mom’s health scare…TMI? hehe)

One of my New Year’s resolutions for 2012 is to cut back on my McDonald’s intake and get enough sleep!
No matter what year it is, I always manage to have the messiest workplace. Argh…2012, I promise I’ll clean up my crap.
I’ll definitely read more this 2012! I have so many books lying around the house. Argh.

Again, I apologize for my crummy photos. 2012 will be better! Happy New Year everyone!

I used CamScanner to scan my photos sorry for the inconsistent quality of the pictures – I don’t why this happens.

As film photographers, our photos become part of our journey through everyday life. For this year’s series, our Lomographers encapsulate their trials, joys and the various highlights of their lives in 2011. Read more articles on the Year Ender series.
