In celebration of Thanksgiving, let's take a look at some Thanksgiving parade photos from way back.
Thanksgiving is a holiday that is celebrated yearly in the United States and Canada. Canada celebrates this in October while the United States celebrate it the same time as Columbus day, in November. This holiday is celebrated by the community in order to give thanks for a good harvest season. Families celebrate Thanksgiving with a big feast that typically consists of turkey, pumpkin pies, cranberry sauce and many more. Before the meal, the family members usually take turns saying what they are thankful for.
Another Thanksgiving tradition is the Thanksgiving Day Parade. In the United States, this tradition started when President Lincoln announced it an official affair. Thanksgiving parades consist of floats and performances that will give joy to all those who attend. One of the yearly parades that take place annually in New York City is the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
The first ever Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade was held in 1924. Every year, the parade offers floats and giant balloons of different characters, such as Kermit the Frog, Sonic the Hedgehog, Rocky and Bullwinkle, Garfield, Donald Duck, Superman and Uncle Sam. Apart from these, there are also live musical acts who perform during the 3-hour event. Let’s take a look at more vintage of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade from the 1920’s to the 1930’s.
