When you look at Salvador Dali’s illustrations, you can see that each image represents his style as an artist. He created a total of 12 illustrations, one for each chapter of the Lewis Caroll classic. He is most known for his surrealist paintings, especially the one with melting clocks — ‘The Persistence of Memory’.

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland is a novel written by Lewis Caroll back in 1865. It is about Alice, a girl who falls down the rabbit hole and finds herself in a world different from her own. Alice in Wonderland may seem like a children’s tale but adults too, find this story intriguing.

Maecenas Press – Random House published a book of Salvador Dali’s Alice in Wonderland illustrations in 1969. The book was featured as their book of the month. It contains 12 photographic engravings of the illustrations and a front piece, signed by Dali himself. The collection of ‘Alice in Wonderland’ illustrations is said to be one of the most sought after among Dali’s works. It is hard to come by this collection but there are a few copies floating around online that sell for more or less $13,000. If ever you come across one and intend to buy it, just make sure that you get an authentic copy.

You can view more of Salvador Dali’s ‘Alice in Wonderland’ illustrations on the William Bennett Gallery website.
