5 Questions on Analogue Photography with Daz B

In this new and on-going series we have selected some of the most enthusiastic film photography fanatics and asked them 5 simple questions that gives us an insight into their passion for all things analogue. We also get to see some of their own photographs. Today we talk to Web Developer Daz B.

Name: Daz B
Occupation: Web Developer
Country: Bristol, UK

1. Tell us about yourself in three sentences maximum?

I’ve been into Lomography for about 3 years now. If you haven’t seen my photos before, or have and it wasn’t obvious – I like photographing cats. I also enjoy doing little photography projects – aeroplanes landing, cows, graffiti characters – anything that holds my interest for a bit.

2.Why do you still shoot analogue?

Mainly because of the cameras. I like how they look, how they feel, their little quirks – everything about them. I also love cross-processing. Sure, I could achieve similar results with a digital camera/photoshop, but I can’t be bothered with that! It’s more fun picking up my negs from the lab and seeing what I’ve got!

3. What photographic equipment (cameras, films, and accessories) do you usually have in your bag?

I rarely leave the house without one of my trusty Lomo Compacts. If I’m going out looking for cats, I’ll take an LC-Wide. If not, I’ll have an LC-A or LC-M with me. I’ll probably have a spare slide film with me just in case I run out of film.

4. Share a trick of yours that will always result to a great photo.

Use the viewfinder and think about composition! (Also, cross-process.)

5. What photographers influence your work?

I became aware of the whole Lomo/cross-processing thing back in 2008 when I saw some photos taken by Adam Bronkhorst
Their brightly coloured, vignetted photos were a huge influence to me back then. Also, my lovely girlfriend star-pixie bought me an Olympus XA and really pushed me into using film – and she is always taking photos that I wish I took!
