Cat ladies are said to be ‘romance-challenged’ individuals who pour their undivided attention on their cats. The term ‘cat lady’ may be deemed derogatory for some. Cat ladies are also seen in movies or television shows, for instance on the TV show The Simpsons, the character Eleanor Abernathy is more popularly known as the ‘Crazy Cat Lady’. The Crazy Cat Lady is often seen with a multitude of cats. She throws her cats at people and also shouts nonsensical words at them.

According to a recent study, the relationship between a human, particularly a woman, and a cat is deeper than a pet-owner relationship. Cats become attached to their owners when their needs are always met. Studies also show that cats are more inclined towards women than men. Cats may appear cold and aloof but in reality, they do remember if someone is kind to them.

The term ‘cat lady’ is becoming less derogatory as time passes. One of the reasons why this is so is becuase of the flurry of adorable cat photos circulating on the internet. Cat ladies are also the subject of a 2009 documentary entitled ‘Cat Ladies’. The documentary shows the lives of 4 women who take care of cats. This documentary can help us realize that being a ‘cat lady’ is not such a big deal as long as you don’t neglect taking care of yourself.

I confess, I'm a cat lady, although I have a boyfriend- he's my cat gent, I guess. And as soon as the both of us will be grey-haired old crazies, we'll most definitely start throwing cats at innocent people ;)
