5 Questions on Analogue Photography with Sebastian Mejia

In this new ongoing series "5 Questions on Analogue Photography with…" we send out the same set of questions to photographers. This time, Sebastian Mejia answered these and sent along a selection of his work.

Name: Sebastian Mejia
Occupation: Photographer
Country: Chile

1. Tell us about yourself in three sentences maximum?
Born in Peru, raised in Colombia, now living in Chile. I’m a South American breed, and I still have a lot to discover here. My favorite fruit is definitively bananas.

2. Why do you still shoot analogue?
Shooting film is a different attitude, it gives me a kind of value to the shot that I dont get from the digital experience. I think the time and work you put into a picture pays off in the end.

3. What photographic equipment (cameras, films, and accessories) do you usually have in your bag?
I like carrying my Holga when I go to the beach, its rugged, and works great with open light. T-Max 400 has worked out well for me, it handles my mistakes nicely.

4. Share a trick of yours that will always result to a great photo.
Oldest trick in the book, wait for the best light to take the camera out for a walk, in other words, be patient.

5. Which photographers influence your work?
XIX Century photographers that took their huge cameras to the frontier to photograph views that no one had ever seen before. Carleton Watkins, Francis Frith and Roger Fenton. In South America there is a great representative of this movement, his name is Martin Chambi and he took some amazing shots of Cuzco, Peru.
