A rejuvenated area in Industrial East Johannesburg holds a hidden gem between Fox and Main Street called Main Street Life. Due to our lovely current weather, they decided to have a day into night market festival.
Arts on Main is one of the many new projects to rejuvenate Johannesburg. It is tucked away in the middle of a very industrial area and once you enter, you feel as if you are in an entirely different space. As spring has sprung here in Jozi we are all taking advantage of the most beautiful weather.
I found out about this day to night festival and decided it was a must do, as the ‘complex’ is well known for their food above all else it was a perfect dinner idea!
Another lomo friend and I went late afternoon whilst the sun was still up to enjoy a mojito at sunset. The food already smelled delicious and the market was buzzing with people. Electric, vintage, retro you name it and the clothes to buy were there. As well as some independent breweries and jewelers with the most beautiful items!
We snack on some starter type food and when it was time for our main meal we settled on a flatbread pizza which was just yum with its strawberry, rocket, feta, and balsamic dressing goodness! Of course dessert was necessary and brownies were the end decision!
We did not go home with any items as with our student budgets, food was the main expense for the day. After our meal we went into the courtyard to watch a local band, from there we decided to go to the bar on the roof, to watch from above and have some photo ops with the vintage car that somehow found its way up there.
Arts on Main is not to be missed if you are visiting Johannesburg. Every Sunday is a morning market and the restaurants and galleries remain open all week as well.
