5 Questions on Analogue Photography with Johan Izham Jamalulil

In this new ongoing series "5 Questions on Analogue Photography with…" we send out the same set of questions to photographers. This time, Johan Izham Jamalulil – a creative head at Bernama TV and a fan of Lomography from Malaysia – answered these and sent along a selection of his work.

Name: Johan Izham Jamalulil

Occupation: Creative Head at Bernama TV
Country: Malaysia

1. Tell us about yourself in three sentences maximum?
Introvert. Analytical. Mind-doodler.

Johan Izham Jamalulil
and his newly bought Sprocket Rocket!

2. Why do you still shoot analogue?
I only shoot with analogue using lomography cameras as i like its elements of surprise, shoot-from-the-hip thingy. Besides, there are a lot of digigraphers out there who tends to look behind their cameras after every click unlike photographers who are confident with each of their shots. Well, photography is indeed a study of light being captured onto the film, digital technology its just to help you with it. So with analogue photography like lomography keeps me in tradition within these times of digital photography.

3. What photographic equipment (cameras, films, and accessories) do you usually have in your bag?
I think my iPhone is a camera than it is of anything else simply because I think the best camera is the camera that you always bring along with you everywhere and anytime but I do carry my Sprocket Rocket everywhere. (I just bought it to replace my war torn Horizon and I love it!). I love panoramas! And I carry it with my Colorsplash Flash, too.

4. Share a trick of yours that will always result to a great photo.
Always tilt your camera or your head (or tilt the object hehe) rather than just fixing it to the horizon, unless you want it that way though. And it also makes you look cute while doing it. :)

5. Which photographers influence your work?
There is too many to list here. Shortest way to say is everyone who shoots with Lomography!

Thanks Johan for taking the time to answer these questions!
