For the second installment in the series, we bring you a hair-raising film that brought sleepless nights and nightmares to many. Halloween is just a few weeks away, but prepare to get a big scare as we revisit "The Exorcist," and the alleged true tales of terror behind it.
You know that a horror movie is successful and hands-down terrifying when the title alone sends a chill down your spine. For many people (including myself), reading or hearing “The Exorcist” alone is enough to make them conjure the movie’s most notorious scenes (that reportedly made people faint, vomit, and walk out of the movie house). It was one of the most notable thrillers of its time, successful enough to establish a cult status and warrant several sequels and prequels.
The Exorcist, directed by William Friedkin, was adapted from the 1971 novel of the same title written by William Peter Blatty. The story of a young girl’s demonic possession and her mother’s desperation to get her back from the clutches of evil was actually based from a real exorcism case.
But, very much like the Poltergeist Trilogy, the 1973 horror flick was surrounded by many real-life tales of terror. According to stories and urban legends, the so-called “Curse of the Exorcist” manifested itself in many ominous events, among them:
1. Deaths of nine people associated to the film’s cast and crew;
2. A mysterious fire ravaged the set while no one was around, causing a 6-week delay of the filming. ;
3. Mental breakdown of lead star Linda Blair;
4. During a scene where she was thrashed around on the bed, Linda Blair’s harness broke, causing permanent injury to her spine.
Instead of photos from the movie set, we’re giving you something a bit more interesting: not one, but two behind the scenes footages from The Exorcist!
