The Little Girl in Black and White

My childhood memories are colorful. I grew up among the green trees and flowers over at my grandparents' home. Though I remember those colors, I have found some photos in black and white. From the moment I saw them, I saw them as gifts from my Grandfather.

I’m not sure why there are many photos of me in black and white as I’m not that old…or…may be I am (as I was born in September 1976). Ouch, yeah okay, it´s long time ago; but wait, by that time, color film already existed.

The photos were taken by my Grandfather. Although I have never talked with him about photography, I know now that it was one of his passions. These photos could have been taken by an Agfa Super Isolette or a Voigtländer, which are the two cameras he had then. All the photos here were shot in his house.

These are my parents with a very young me. In this photo, I was not even a year old. My parents look so 70s. The year I was born was a turbulent year in Argentina.

I have always loved to paint and to draw. I think this must have been one of the first times I had taken a pencil. Surely, it was merely a line.

I don’t even remember these toys. They seem to be very new for being the toys of a little girl, especially if you look at the teddy. Maybe it was soon after my second birthday. Have you noticed my haircut? It is too short I thought, but my mother told me that I was a very huge fan of Heidi, so I asked her to cut my hair like her’s. Isn’t it similar?

Here, with my dad in my grandparent’s garden. I love this garden so much. I used to spend days and nights there. It was my big playground. I should say I miss it a little, but not as much as I miss my grandparents. I had great times there. I love this photo and how he captured this tender moment.

This was my favorite doll. I used to dress both of us almost identically, using my grandmother’s clothes as costume. I liked this doll so much because it was so tall. Later on, I became taller. This doll belonged to my mother! It was hers before mine (not sure if it was mine at all or if it was still hers).

Recently I have found the negatives of the black and white photos. There are a lot more photos than I have. Most of them are portraits of me, that my grandfather took. I have to take the negatives to the lab to print them and scan to share them too. All are about me under 3 years old, because my brother is not in any photo and he was born the day before my 3rd birthday.

These photos are my little treasure, cherished moments from my childhood.

By the way, what do you think about my grandfather’s photos? Hope you find them nice!

Oh, such lovely and beautiful pictures! There are also a lot of film photos of me and my sister, but my sister stores them (as she was the one first getting a hold of them). But I don't mind, because I know she keeps and cherishes them as I would :)

You're lucky your grandfather had documented your childhood through such photographs. His shots are awesome. Thanks for sharing.
