While our Russian friends are busy getting jiggy with it for Russia Day 2012, let's take a look back at one of Russia's oldest babies: the Volga Gaz 24!
In celebration of Conception Week here at Lomography, we’re taking a look back at one of Russia’s most venerated and luxurious cars – the GAZ-24 “Volga”. This of course, isn’t the Russian Family Van that you guys can win in our Car For A Baby Competition. Rather, it’s more of simply reminiscing of how Volga evolved through the years.
The legacy of the Gaz Volga started way back in the Fifties and continued well over the Nineties. What really sets the Gaz apart from the others is how it was the automobile of choice of the upper crust, including the then Russian Communist Party leader Gennady Zyuganov. Right now, the Gaz is a mere shadow of its former self. But who knows? Maybe even the new baby boom will give birth to a new age of Gaz Volgas!
Speaking of the birth of something amazing, we’re eagerly awaiting Russia Day 2012 here at Lomography. We can’t wait to see our winning Lomographic family speed away in their own Russian Mini Van with a Lomo LC-A+ Russia Day camera in tow!
To the Russian or Eastern European Lomgoraphers out there: do you have your own fond memories of the Gaz? Let us know in the comments!
