The Staple in My Photographic Diet

How you can find endless inspiration in the things that you see everyday?

The staple in my photographic diet:

I’ve always had a soft spot for power lines. I love how the lines can lead you in and out of a composition. They are simple yet highly complicated in there arrangement, making them infinitely interesting.

I recently found a binder of negatives that I shot back in high school. To my surprise, I found that I’ve been shooting one thing consistently through the years. Power lines. I really had no idea that this was my ‘go to’ subject matter until I started digging around for old contact sheets. I always seem to find beauty in telephone poles and power lines.

I assume that most photographers have experienced the phenomenon of having a ‘staple’ in their photographic diets. This proves that you can turn any mundane subject into beautiful art with the way that your eyes see them. Andy Warhol made huge waves in the art world by taking objects from our everyday lives and changing the way people see them. This is something that anyone can do. We can all become our own “Warhols” and help others see the beauty in an otherwise boring subject.

When I photograph power lines, my confidence rises. That confidence feeds my creativity, which allows other great things to happen with my photography. I mainly photograph things for myself but if I can use that to help others find inspiration, I have done something amazing.

Find what inspires you, recreate it, and show the world.

I guess my staple has always been my pets. They're the reason why I started taking pictures when I was 5 or so. When my parents bought me my first camera [a polaroid 600], I used all the film that came along for my Sheltie puppy, who was kind of a model dog and always happy to pose for me. Now that he's gone I'm so grateful I've taken hundreds of pictures of him, and I'm doing the same thing with my current pets, and I must say they're quite photogenic too :-)
Nice article, I have a thing for telephone lines too, and streetlamps at night are another favorite of mine!

Your photos are beautiful!! My go to subjects are clouds and trees. I could photograph them all day and I love that no 2 trees or clouds are the same

Power lines are also my favorites. I would also include cups of coffee, breakfast, wooden doors, trees and leaves

I love to stare at clouds (:
Especially when they block a strong ray of sunlight so only part of it is illuminated!
    Very pretty ^^
