Three years ago, my mom brought home a little brown puppy. Nowadays, Izzie is just as crazy as the day we got her.
My mother bought Izzie when she was 6 weeks old through a family that lived near us. She was part of the mother’s last litter, as she was getting older and her owners were too busy to breed her anymore. Izzie is a Boykin Spaniel, a hunting dog originally bred in South Carolina to be small enough to fit in a boat with a hunter hunting for waterfowl.
As a hunting dog, she seems to have boundless energy when she wants to play, although she spends most of the day napping inside. My mother has been training Izzie to run agility courses for over a year now, so she is light on her feet and can jump higher than you can believe. She doesn’t always get her commands right, or listen to us all the time, but she is a sweet dog and I love her very much. She is afraid of lightning, loves chicken, and is happiest chasing after a ball in my parents’ backyard.
She is often a subject of my photos because I am constantly in awe of her seemingly endless amount of energy. Here are some pictures taken from 2009 – 2011 that might help explain to you why I love this dog so much.
